As common as divorce may be, some people still find it taboo to openly talk about. When Uma Thurman sat down with Oprah in 2005, she ended up airing out everything on TV.
In the video below, Uma tears up and says, “Oh gosh! I don’t talk about this very much. Half of America that gets married goes through what I just went through.”
Oprah takes a second to correct her: “No, 57%.”
Uma laughs and continues, “Thank you. You know, it’s extremely hard, and it’s hard on the whole family. You’re a family, and then you’re not a family in the same way.”
She shares more about her five-year marriage and divorce from fellow actor Ethan Hawke, leaving a lasting impression on those watching. She’s 100% genuine and every word she says is full of raw emotion.
The actress later adds, “Our marriage failed. I should take full responsibility for the failure of my own marriage,” adding, “Blaming anybody doesn’t make you feel any better.”
Uma mentions several factors that came into play before she and Ethan reached the point of divorce, which surely opens up the eyes of some viewers.
In the end, Uma knows that her family will be OK, and that’s what matters the most. This footage may be old, but everything the famous actress says in this interview with Oprah is honest and timeless.
